Webb Dock Railway Line (Disused)

The line was formally opened on 27th February 1986 and closed on 14th June 1996. It commenced near Spencer Street Railway Station, now Southern Cross, and was used as a freight line connecting with the Webb Dock container terminal located on the south-west corner of Fishermans Bend. Due to construction of the Docklands Stadium commenced in 1997, currently named Etihad Stadium, the city end of the line was removed to accommodate the structure. The only section of remaining line is observed in Fishermans Bend, along Lorimar Street, Todd Street and Wharf Road, where it follows the northern boundary of Westgate Park. The former Webb Dock Railway Bridge where the line crossed the Yarra was converted to a pedestrian and cycle bridge that open in 2002 and forms a link along the Capital City Trail.
