The North Fitzroy cable tramway was opened in 1886.The route along Brunswick Street and St Georges Road terminated at Barlky Street.The trams were housed in sheds adjacent to the terminus.In 1939 the route was extended and electrified, and the site of the tram sheds was sold.Shops were built along St Georges Road, and villa units were built along Barkly St and Pilkington Street.
