North Fitzroy was proclaimed in 1860, as the area north from Reilly Street (now Alexandra Parade) as far as Park Street. In 1881 the northern boundary was extended further north to present-day May Street, and that is still the northern boundary of the City of Yarra. Incremental boundary changes in 1940 and 1983 have extended the northern boundary of the Locality of Fitzroy North to include the properties along the north side of Glenlyon Road and then along Alister Street.
