Richmond Baths c.1915

Image held at Richmond Library. Boys are swimming and splashing in the foreground of the photograph, more are standing around the edges of pool in the background. When the Richmond Baths opened in 1897 they were the largest in Victoria and among the finest, and Richmond acquired a reputation as one of the theswimming centres of Victoria. The main reason the Council built the baths was concern at the number of people who drowned in the river. Swimming was segregated. Library identifier RL 313.
