"Mikado"

96 Trennery Crescent was once the site of "Mikado", the house of architect William Pitt. Pitt, born in Melbourne in 1855, commenced practice as an architect in 1879. Favouring the Gothic style, he was responsible for many well-known buildings including Gordon House, the Melbourne Stock Exchange, the Rialto and Olderfleet buildings, St. Kilda and Brunswick town halls, the Foy and Gibson warehouses and the Victoria brewery in Victoria Parade. He also designed many theatres and re-designed the Princess Theatre in 1888. Photographs in this pin originally appeared in "Victoria's Representative Men at Home": Punch's illustrated interviews by Lauderdale.
