Smith St Decorated for Queen Victoria's Jubilee

A large trellised archway has been built right across the road from Foy and Gibson's drapers on the left (Collingwood) side to the shop on the right (Fitzroy) side. The archway is decorated with various banners and the huge numbers 1837 - 1897 denoting the fifty years of Victoria's reign. There are people standing on top of the arch and the street is lined with people, horse-drawn cabs and carts. On the right is the office of The Observer, the principal newspaper of the Collingwood and Fitzroy district for many years. Architecture matches current buildings at the corner of Smith and Webb streets, facing south.
