Mrs. Tempany's Shop

Mrs Tempany stands on the footpath outside her fancy goods, dressmaking and underclothing establishment at 251 Hoddle Street. This was between Vere Street and Perry Street near the site of the high rise flats. All the buildings which originally fronted Hoddle Street on this side were demolished for the road widening. Mrs Tempany opened the shop after her second husband died and is dressed in a plain black dress with a severe hair style. The building is a plain brick style, two storey but without a balcony, just a simple verandah. The display window is densely filled with goods. c.1880s
