Water has been an integral part of Port Melbourne and its identity, with many of its leisure activities revolving around water. The Port Melbourne beach has long been a focus for swimming, fishing, picnics and promenading. Like elsewhere in Melbourne organised sport has always played a large role in Port life, centred on the North Port Oval, and its home teams the Sandridge Cricket Club and the Port Melbourne Boroughs Football Club. Port also hosts two dedicated Trugo clubs and a bowls club. Other important places in the story of leisure time pursuits in the area include theatres, swimming baths and the pubs, mainly centred on Bay Street. To explore more of these places of leisure, take the Bay Street Pub tour, or explore the area around North Port oval.
