MikeMooreIn early 1897 John Dunne established the Moonee Valley Glass Works on 4 acres at the corner of King Street and Glenlyon Road. The glass furnace had four working holes, a smelting capacity of ten tons, and was surmounted by a stack 70 feet high. He imported the plant and the skilled bottle makers, erecting eight dwellings for them on the site. The manager's "most handsome balconied and towered residence" still stands at the corner of Glenlyon Road and King Street
MikeMooreThis street was first named in Robert Russell's plan of subdivision in 1854, and is probably the oldest street name in North Fitzroy. The land was then owned by William Thomas, and the street was named after his daughter Emily Eliza who had married Robert Pilkington. The sheds for the 1886 cable trams were at the eastern side until 1939. Then the land was sold, and the existing villa units were built.

The two storey brick residence "is named Bangalore after the place of his nativity, and is the finest dwelling-house yet erected in Fitzroy. Its immediate surroundings are excellent, the edifice itself can be seen from a great distance, and the internal arrangements reminds one of a modern English baronial mansion on a small scale, while the views from the balconies are extended and pleasing." (Our Local Men of the Times, Fitzroy Library LH 32/15)
MikeMooreThis land had been purchased by William Thomas in 1848, and used as a farm by his son. Sydney Street was later renamed Barkly Street in honour of Sir Henry Barkly, Governor of Victoria from 1856 to 1863. The north-south streets were named after Thomas's children: - Emily Eliza, born c1834, married to Robert Pilkington; - William Jackson Thomas, born c1820, died 1909; - Mary Ann, born c1830, married in October 1849.to William Lansdown, a farmer from Pentridge, Thomas Street and Lansdowne Street were not constructed and were replaced very soon after by the Yan Yean water pipeline and later St Georges Road.
